Hotel-Restaurant Schwanen

My booking, made several months ahead, was cancelled at short notice by the owners. They demanded that I pay more than three times the agreed price or said the booking would be cancelled within 48 hours. This was during a popular festival, and I believe the business wanted to resell my room for more money. Simply illegal profiteering. Avoid this unethical business unless you want a last-minute cancellation or a demand for extra payment after your booking is confirmed.

I booked four rooms last August, six months ahead, for €2200 total including VAT. A few days ago, the hotel said it would cancel them unless I accepted a new rate of €9600 excluding VAT. They said the original rates were obviously an error, even though the weeks just before and after my reservation were priced the same as my booking. I tried to explain European consumer law, but they disregarded it and cancelled the rooms. This hotel has no ethics, in my view. Avoid it: they can change rates without notice and leave you with nowhere to go.

Breakfast was nice, and we enjoyed a lovely dinner too. This village hotel is close to Basel, with a quiet, warm, clean room and free parking. We'll come back.

The room was very hot, and when we asked for a fan, the first response was, "I don't have time for this now." We were then told there wasn't one. After we persisted, the waitress in the restaurant walked away muttering, "I don't like your tone," but did eventually bring us a fan. At check-in, we were greeted by a bored-looking, unfriendly staff member. It's a shame some staff showed no interest in making guests feel welcome. I won't visit again.
