The Westerhever Lighthouse is practically right beside this quaint cottage, and you can get a good view of it from there. I spotted the place while visiting Sankt Peter-Ording and, being a photographer, had to take a picture. I didn't go inside, so that's all I can say.

We only walked past the holiday apartment, so I can't comment on the inside. Its setting is lovely, though, and the place looks enchanting.

The bike rental was closed when we visited, and I hadn't planned for the roughly 20-minute walk across the mudflats. I was with my 3-year-old grandson, so this time we had to admire the lighthouse from far away. We'll come back.

There are no shops or bakeries nearby, and neither the house nor mobile data has internet. For bakeries, I recommend the ones on the market square in Tönning. They're really good, with delicious homemade products rather than premade goods, and you can pair the stop with a visit to Multimar. The little thatched house is cozy, with a warm tiled stove. Set just behind the dike, it makes a nice starting point for walks to the salt marshes, the lighthouse, and the sea, or the mudflats. At low tide there's a 4-km walk across the flats to the sandbank, but be sure to check the tide times. The lighthouse is also accessible at normal tide. St. Peter Ording and its lovely beaches are a 15-minute drive away.

It's extremely damp, and in places the mold has just been painted over. I wouldn't consider staying here safe for health, especially with children.
