Hotel Weigels Bergfreiheit

Thomas, his family, and the staff make the whole stay feel cozy and relaxing. They’re so welcoming, including to your family.

The place felt homey, and the owners gave us a very warm welcome. Our room was clean, and the accommodations were plentiful. Guests can use the sauna and pool during the day and early evening. Dinner was delicious and prepared just right. They can also reserve you a table in the evening. Breakfast was tasty too, with tea and coffee brought to the table so lovingly by the sweetest granny. A couple of things could be better: getting the shower to the right temperature took some effort, though it was possible, and the beds felt hard. The pillow didn’t have much shape or support. A few lights in our room weren’t working, but that was a minor issue. I’d stay here again.

My girlfriend (28) and I (29) spent two nights at Weigels last week, and we were already talking about coming back. We arrived late in the evening on our motorbike, and the owner came out to check that we were all right. He welcomed us in and showed us around the hotel and our room. We kicked off the stay with excellent beer and a cocktail, thanks to his great colleague Jenni. The hotel, pool, and sauna were super clean, with thoughtful details that didn’t feel overdone. Breakfast was a lovely start to the day too. I think the woman’s name was Anja, she was sweet and polite, and had a great smile. It’s a great area for a weekend, and I’d recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to explore Sauerland and feel at home at the same time. The stay was so comfortable that I had a hard time thinking of improvements. Still, a small patch of asphalt for motorcycle parking would help. In bad weather, gravel behind the hotel can be a problem. After a night of rain, the bike stand might sink into the ground and the motorbike could fall over.

The food is simple, tasty, and really well done, and the small wine selection pairs nicely with it. It’s worth the nine-minute drive from the center of Winterberg to eat here. For me, this is the best restaurant in the Winterberg area.
