We stayed just one Saturday night and only used the room and parking. The hotel was pretty, with a cozy Christmas feel, and the receptionist was very friendly. Our spacious, stylish room had plenty of storage for clothes and luggage, a comfortable bed, smart TV, and a clean bathroom with a powerful shower. The noisy rave at what seemed to be the basement bar, The Kelder, was the downside. Music and people could be heard late into the night, even with our street-facing windows shut. Inside the hotel, we could also hear footsteps from upstairs, the hallways and the stairs. It might be quieter on weekdays. That's perhaps part of staying right in the city center, which is great otherwise!

The locals were amazing, and I fell in love with this small city. At the hotel, the family made us feel at home from the start. I met one of the owners outside with a friend on a lovely day, and he invited my guest and me to join them for a drink before we even knew he owned the place. When they found out we planned to eat at the hotel restaurant, they treated us like royalty and wanted us to enjoy proper Italian food. Their mother, the head chef, did an outstanding job. There's also a cigar lounge in the cellar, a great spot for a drink with your best mates. The historic hotel is gorgeous, with beautiful staircases, thoughtful flooring and warm lighting that makes each room feel cozy. It's been decorated to suit each room, and the stay felt luxurious without costing a fortune. I was blown away by the staff and the whole experience.

We come to Xanten every year, and Bledi and the family who own the hotel are magnificent. The rooms have been updated in recent years, so they're much more comfortable while still keeping their distinctive historic character. The service is top class, and "moma's" cooking is wonderful. You'll enjoy staying here, and Xanten is a cool place to visit too.

I spent Saturday night here for a sports event in town. The bright, spacious room, friendly staff, cozy retro feel, rich and delicious breakfast, restaurant and cellar bar/club were all great. The mattress was the problem, though. It felt retro in the wrong way, and a new one is overdue. This could easily have been five stars otherwise.
