Drei Schwäne

The hotel has had a rough history with owners and management. The new owner plans to keep it closed until the necessary renovations are finished, so I’m curious to see what happens next.

Breakfast was a letdown: cold eggs, barely warm coffee, and some dried-out sausage. On Sunday the rolls were rock-hard, apparently because “the kid left them in the oven too long when baking them,” and the rye bread was the cheapest kind. Coffee came from a pump thermos, and the milk wasn’t chilled. Checkout was just as careless. The bill had the name and address badly misspelled, and there was no “Were you satisfied?” or even a goodbye. It felt like nobody expected guests to come back. The restaurant and bar were closed. Our room was upstairs in a central location, and it was decent, renovated, and a bit like a youth hostel. But the place seemed badly run: the bathroom soap was empty, the minibar was half full and smelled bad, the duvet was thin, the napkin was better than the towel, the house key was missing from the keyring, and the TV was a tablet about the size of a tube TV. It seemed focused on squeezing out a few extra euros with minimal overhead and a few unskilled workers. Thanks, but never again.

Markus Hahn really cares about his guests. I’ve never met a hotel owner who put in that much effort. Fantastic hotel, and we’ll be back. Best wishes from Paderborn.

The staff were very helpful, and they dealt with my complaint promptly. It’s quiet and centrally located, with a great breakfast. There wasn’t fruit salad, but there was a fresh fruit basket. The bicycle could be adjusted, and the basement bar was nice.
