Hotel Nicolay zur Post

We didn’t make it to the spa, but we’ll try it next time since we’ll definitely be back. Everyone was lovely and always smiling. The hotel is older, which gave our stay plenty of charm, and it was one of the cleanest places I’ve stayed. The mattress was comfortable, the sheets were clean, and the towels were fresh. We enjoyed sitting on the beautiful terrace overlooking the river. We’re not vegan, but breakfast was good, with lots of vegetables and fruit, different juices and milk options, breads and pastries, and delicious jams.

As vegans, we loved being able to eat everything on offer at both the abundant breakfast buffet and dinner, since all the food is vegan. I think non vegans can enjoy it too, unless they’re hardcore meat lovers. We also enjoyed the modern sauna and swimming pool area, the beautiful location along the Moselle boulevard, and the friendly staff. Owner and chef Johannes Nicolay prepares unique, very tasty dishes.

We came back for brunch the next day, and it was worth it. We’d booked this place for our two vegan friends, and the three course set meal they had was extremely tasty. There are four restaurants with different food. Service was quick and super friendly, and the owner and his mother chatted with us. You can tell how much they care about their work, the restaurant, the hotel, and their family history here. It’s a special hotel for vegans, but I’d recommend it even if you aren’t one. We’ll definitely return.

We only ate dinner at The Weinstube, where the vegan food was superb. The chef explains what’s on your plate, and each dish looks like a piece of art and tastes delicious. Even if you’re not vegan, it’s well worth a visit, and the coffee is excellent. The hotel has a great position facing the Mosel river, with cozy furnishings and a nostalgic, rustic German feel. The staff were super friendly, and the chef was amazing.
