Robenstein Aktivhotel & SPA

The friendly, welcoming staff made our stay at the Robenstein hotel feel special. They were happy to help with anything we needed, and the other guests were just as considerate and polite. It all felt a bit like being part of a family. I hope we can visit again soon.

I loved the room and the service, and the four-course dinners were incredible. The hotel is also in an amazing spot for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, and they welcome dogs. My one disappointment was the booking promise of dog food, treats, and a gift at checkout. None of those were provided, which is why I rated the service three stars.

So peaceful here, and I’d happily come back. The food and saunas were great, and there’s lovely, natural forest nearby with a small mountain not far away. A little extra cleaning in a few places would have made the stay perfect.

The food was the biggest letdown. We paid a good amount for full board since the nearest restaurant in Zwiesel is an hour’s walk downhill, but the meals felt more like two or three stars. They were sometimes bland and unimaginative, and the main course portions were very small. The hotel itself has a lovely, quiet setting in Rabenstein, on top of Zwiesel, with a beautiful panorama and paths into the forest. Our room was spacious and had a particularly nice bathroom. The pool was pleasant too, and there’s a quiet room, a steam bath, and two saunas. In the afternoon, though, the sauna area felt too small and became very crowded. The extra sauna village was out of order, which was disappointing. Some room details could use attention. The bed creaked and was very uncomfortable because of its metal springs, and the curtains let in so much light that it was already bright in the morning. The bathrobes were nice, but slippers, body lotion, a notepad, or even a pen would have been reasonable at a four-star hotel. Service could be better as well. We had to ask for the guest card and only received it much later. There were no hiking or city maps, which would be useful in a region that promotes hiking, and we were given incorrect information about a walking trail. It’s a beautiful, quiet location with lovely rooms. I hope the hotel can make better use of its potential.
