The location is the only good thing I can say about this place. The hostel wasn’t clean, and the staff were coarse and difficult to deal with. I felt they formed a prejudice against me and gave worse service because I’m American. The beds don’t come with sheets, which you have to buy separately, and the blankets provided were yellowed with age. When I raised the mess in the downstairs kitchen, staff blamed guests and put up petty notes instead of dealing with the problem.

The biggest problem for me was having to rent bed linen. For a room advertised at a price that doesn’t include it, that felt unbelievable and unfair compared with hostels that include linen, as they should. The room and other facilities were fine, and the rest of the issues were minor by comparison. It was somewhat noisy, with the hostel beside the train station on one side and a tram stop with an incredibly loud loudspeaker on the other. The room cards barely worked, sometimes taking more than 20 swipes to open a door. I also don’t think the elevator was working.

The bed creaked whenever I moved even a little, and the bathroom floor was very slippery, so watch out. The room was old and poorly decorated for such an expensive price. Being near the station is the only advantage. I’d rather take a train to another city than stay here again. I promise I won’t.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed our stay. We had a twin room with its own bathroom and shower. It’s a hostel, and the price reflects that. The only downside for me as an older traveller was the lift’s 150 kilo limit. We were on the third floor, and my wife and I couldn’t ride it together. A minor detail. The hostel is beside the train station and just a few minutes’ walk from town.
