Las Puertas del Paraíso

I had reserved this place before arriving, but the owner wouldn't let me in. They told me, “we are waiting someone else, not you!” I don't really know why I was turned away. Maybe it was discrimination because I'm black, or maybe it was my clothes or hair. That's the only reason I can think of.

We spent 10 days here while exploring the area, and the location couldn't have worked better. The hosts were lovely, generous with their time and suggestions, and the whole discreet, efficient staff helped us feel welcome and safe. The grounds are lush and well kept, with charming bungalows and the sweetest chickens, cats, and donkeys wandering around while keeping their distance from guests. The clean, refreshing pool is surrounded by beautiful tropical flowers. The restaurant serves the best meals around, hands down, and the fresh, generous breakfasts set us up for beach days. The area's most amazing beaches are close by. We really hit the jackpot with this little paradise.

Giovanni and his wife made us feel right at home. The clean, well-equipped cabins sit in beautiful green surroundings, and the food was amazing, with gourmet and tropical flavors together. There's plenty to do nearby. Gri Gri Lagoon is lovely for sightseeing, and the affordable boat tours take you to a beautiful swimming hole with breathtaking views. DuDu lagoon is one of the most beautiful lagoons I've ever seen. Entry to the park is just $5 dollars, and you can spend the day enjoying the grounds. Playa Grande and Playa Caleton are also beautiful tropical beaches just a short drive away. The area is gorgeous, and Puertas Del Paraiso made us feel welcome and safe.

Our group of veterinarians and technicians came to help with issues affecting the local cat and dog population. We had a fabulous time at the Hotel. The hosts were completely accommodating, warm, gracious, and delightful. We'll definitely be back!
