Hôtel D'orient

The location and the art deco vintage building are the main draw. I’d wanted to stay here for over a decade, and I was really pleased. For less than 30 euro, the room was clean and super decent for the price, and the service was stellar. The bed felt royal, though it was on the firm side. There was a sewage smell in the room, which is common in vintage buildings in Algeria. Breakfast was included, and I’m about to tuck in. I enjoyed it 🥰

The smell was bad, and mosquitoes got in through the little gaps in the windows. Outside, the street stays noisy 24/7, and the walls are so thin you can hear everything said in the next rooms. The hotel is old and could use a thorough refurbishment. You can see the small fixes done here and there. Nope, don’t.

The location is handy, overlooking the town square where people gather for coffee, ice cream, or just to hang out. The rooms are a good size for the city and the beds are comfortable. The staff were lovely, especially the room maid Hamida, who greeted me like an old friend on my second visit. There is a plumbing and drainage problem, though. I found a hair in the shower, and when I tried to clear it, I pulled out a golf ball sized ball of hair. Maybe maintenance should check the showers regularly for blockages.

A fair deal for the price. I’d suggest checking the qibla direction, since it doesn’t match what my phone shows on different apps.
