Hotel Sultan Jijel

During the fasting month, my family and I reserved a table in advance for Iftar at the hotel restaurant. On the phone, we were promised an all-you-can-eat buffet with three different dishes. We left hungry: the rice, pasta, and fish had run out, the chicken was almost gone, and there was no bourek, which we traditionally eat with Chorba, or any mini-burgers. It was sad and frustrating. We paid full price for a bowl of Chorba, which I found over-seasoned. The servers hardly paid attention to us, and nobody explained what was happening or why the food had run out. Later, once we’d gotten over the shock, we told the hotel owner what had happened. He acknowledged the restaurant had been overbooked that night, but didn’t want to refund us. Apparently, he thought paying full buffet price for just a bowl of chorba was normal. Jijel is a beautiful, clean city and well worth visiting, but I’d keep looking for somewhere to eat and stay so this hotel doesn’t spoil your trip.
