Gîte Djenane Malek

We enjoyed the outdoor activities, though it’s a good idea to go over the programme with the hotel and guide. The pool has a lovely view, and there’s a nice terrace cafe with good music for sunset tea. This traditional hotel looks out over the palmerai. Reception staff were quick to respond and dedicated, and the chef was attentive and happy to accommodate requests. The food was great. Our room was very simple, with some trouble with hot water and the toilets. The owner offered us a discount, which we appreciated. The place can host families, but it needs some refurbishment and more attention to details. Work on new rooms was underway when we visited, so things might be better now. A good choice for a short stay if you’re not after luxury or comfort.

Mr. Mohammed picked me up at the airport and was my guide around town and the nearby oases, arranged by the hotel. He was knowledgeable, wise, and spoke good English. The hotel’s traditional style appealed to me, and my room was clean and functional. I enjoyed the tasty traditional food too. My booking was made through the travel company that organized my Algeria trip. I recommend staying at Hotel Djenane Malek.

There are lots of places to sit and relax at this spacious property, with both standard and traditional rooms. It’s about a 10 min walk to the town centre. Breakfast is simple, and the staff are friendly and helpful. English spojen if required. My only small gripe was that the shower could’ve been hotter in winter. There was also a resident monkey while I was there.

The garden was a lovely spot, with rabbits, chicken and an antilope. From the terrace, there are views of the garden and desert dunes. The hotel has a beautiful rustic, traditional feel, with nothing modern apart from wifi, which worked well. The room had all the basics.
