I ended up extending my stay because I loved the month I spent studying Spanish with Mayra so much. She's a great teacher and deeply committed to her students. I began as a beginner with very little Spanish and now feel comfortable in most situations and can hold conversations. Mayra also owns and maintains beautiful apartments where I've stayed. They're very clean, have lovely murals and great city views, and are well placed for everything Baños offers. After class, there's rafting, hiking, Casa del Árbol, and much more, so you'll never be bored or short of chances to practise your Spanish. I highly recommend studying with Mayra!

Mayra is a professional teacher with impeccable English, so you'll learn a little about that language too. She adapts to your level and pace. I took private classes for $8 an hour, usually two hours a day, and we'd chat about world politics, local restaurants, and funny stories. She can also make the lessons more structured or focus on grammar, and she has good resources. I'd highly recommend studying with her. Even if you're just spending a few days in Banos, send a WhatsApp message and take a class. I planned on three or four and ended up staying for 10.

Baños is a lovely place to learn Spanish. It's a safe town of 30,000 with clean air, beautiful nature, health food restaurants, and plenty of tours and adventure sports. This is an excellent small Spanish school, with one-on-one or small group lessons. Most Spanish schools are in large cities that are dangerous and polluted.

The relaxed private classes were wonderful, and I got to learn what I was interested in. The prices are great, too. I took two days of classes, two hours each day, and only wish I'd had more time in town to take more Spanish lessons!
