Casa Macondo Bed & Breakfast

The building is lovely, the room was clean, the bed was great, and there was warm water and a good breakfast. It’s quiet, well located, and the staff were friendly and helpful. For this price range, it had what you’d expect from a hotel. One small hassle is the door policy: since guests don’t get keys, you have to call someone to let you in. That could be tricky late at night, though it’s apparently common in Ecuador, so arriving late shouldn’t put you off.

I’d happily return if I’m in Cuenca again. The included breakfast was excellent, and the little courtyard garden was beautiful. I was lucky to get a room with a nice view of it. The place was cozy, clean, safe, and affordable, and both the owner and staff were friendly and very helpful.

The front desk guys were always ready to answer questions and share whatever tourist information they had. All the staff were sweet and patient with my bad Spanish. We had a clean, comfortable room with some character, plus several pleasant places to sit around the quiet little hotel. I’d definitely recommend this hostal. ☺

The location is great, and the setting was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was pretty minimal, though, and the front door arrangement was awful. We got locked out at one point and locked in at another, which I really don’t find acceptable.
