Hostal San Marino

It’s very close to the University, where I had meetings and an expo, and they adjusted breakfast to suit my keto needs. The shower sometimes acted up, though, and no water came out until someone did something with the pump.

The rooms were clean and well kept, but the rest of our experience was terrible. The hostel looked like it was under construction and was infested with cockroaches. We’d chosen it for the pool after traveling all day, only to be told on arrival that rain had made it dirty and they’d clean it within an hour. We couldn’t use it that afternoon or the next day. The website photos were nothing like the reality.

The hostel is well located, and I appreciated that every room had a map of town attractions, even if the ones I saw weren’t especially useful or relevant. The daily breakfast had very little variety, and the staff could use a bit more spark with customer service. Still, my overall experience was good, and I hope things improve and that visits encourage them to keep supporting local businesses. There were several small details that need attention. My room, number 9, didn’t have enough water in the shower, the kitchen faucet didn’t work properly, and some floor tiles were loose. The rooms weren’t in the best condition, and the towels and sheets weren’t good quality. Cleaning was more poor than good. Parking inside is single file, so it’s important to agree on the schedule ahead of time. The stairs to the second floor are very narrow, only wide enough for one person at a time. I don’t think a place should be judged by its price. Every business should be free to charge what it wants.

I think opening a film club is an enriching idea and a great addition to the experience here.
