I liked the people and the shared space, but the condition of the property was a real disappointment. The common areas had a lovely feel, and I enjoyed talking with the staff. Still, I had to move to another hostel because of the mould. There was mould on bedroom and bathroom walls, as well as bedroom ceilings. In an upper bunk, it was about half a metre from my face all night, so I was breathing it in. I woke with chest congestion and a cough. I don’t think the low price excuses that amount of mould, and the ventilation clearly wasn’t enough. I was surprised so few other reviews mentioned it. A musty smell in a room is a major red flag, and I hope other guests know what they may find.

Being a short walk from town made this place quieter and more peaceful than many hostels there. I ended up staying four nights instead of the two I’d booked, and loved it. The shared areas were calm places to eat, work, chat, practice yoga, or listen to the constant rain. I cooked each night and found the kitchen well stocked. The other guests were lovely people there to enjoy Mindo’s nature, and I really liked the sociable atmosphere without a party vibe.

If you’re after a peaceful stay, I’d absolutely recommend this hostel. My private room was comfortable, clean, and lovely, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They also have a huge breakfast for $4.

Such a calm, relaxing place, tucked away in an open shared space. The beds were comfy, everything was clean, and the host was the nicest. Go stay there!

The dorms were great, with curtains and chargers, and I loved seeing the hummingbirds and pets. The staff were happy to help me arrange a taxi and other things, though they weren’t around in the evenings. My only complaint is that the bathrooms could’ve been cleaner.
