The hotel sorted out some laundry for me, washing and drying it cheaply, which was a real plus. I also found the staff friendly, especially the manager, or maybe owner, who made me feel welcome. Rooms are huge, and the air conditioning worked well. That matters a lot on Ecuador's coast. It was very inexpensive, too, and only about a five-minute walk to the beach. Some places are closer or right on the beach, but the short walk didn't bother me, especially since many beachfront hotels don't have air conditioning. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. I wasn't impressed by the food in Mompiche overall, though cheap meals are easy to find. For about $3 USD, many places serve an almuerzo, with fish soup, shrimp with rice and lentils, and juice. I thought this hotel was great value.

We ended up needing somewhere to stay because of our arrival time in Mompiche and the tide. Our first hotel was north along the beach and could only be reached by driving on the beach. At Los Balcones, I waited about 20 minutes at reception before I found a cleaning lady, who went to get the owner. I had thought he was a restaurant guest. We paid $80 cash for two nights. My husband's back gave out on the mattress, so we had to return to Quito. The owner gave me only $20 back, even though there were just three other guests at the hotel.

I'd stay here again. The staff are accommodating, and the patio is a great spot. It's a short walk to the beach and a much longer one to a world-class surf break. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, too. Probably the nicest hotel in Mompiche, though that may not be saying much.

The service was great, and the attendants really did try to make us feel at home. Still, the advertised Wi-Fi didn't work, the pool wasn't usable, and breakfast was just so-so, which is why I gave it 3 stars. With the other options in Mompiche, we'd definitely come back.
