We booked three nights in a dorm, then liked it so much that we extended our stay twice. It was easy to get to the parties, just a two-minute walk, while still sleeping well because the place isn't right in the village center. The location worked well, and the rooms were spacious and very clean, with daily cleaning and a private bathroom in ours. Breakfast was a treat too, with eggs, bread, fruit, marmalade, and fresh-pressed juice.

We came for the laid-back Montañita feel and ended up staying at Moai for more than two weeks. The beach is less than a two-minute walk away, and the staff are really friendly. Our room was comfortable, with air conditioning, soft beds, and clean sheets. We used the kitchen for breakfast and a few dinners, and they kindly provide drinking water, which saved us quite a bit of money.

The manager was sleazy, and the place was disgusting. We booked online, moved into our room, then were told the amount was wrong and the price went up. We already had our things moved in and plans, so there wasn't time to switch. As a compromise, we were offered the room above, supposedly cheaper, but it was obvious why: filthy and covered in mold. The sheets looked like someone hadn't made it to the bathroom in time. Go anywhere else if you can.

The people were great, welcoming, and the place had a nice, relaxed vibe. The room wasn't clean, the water wasn't very warm, and Wi-Fi in the bedrooms was poor. At $30 a night for two people, though, I guess it's good value. The place looked a little abandoned or unmanaged, since only volunteers seemed to handle the day-to-day operations. It could use some work to freshen it up. I saw it was for sale, so maybe that's why.

Really nice place to stay. I loved the vibe, and the host and staff were so friendly and helpful. I’d definitely go back if I travel to Montañita again. I recommend it 100% 😁
