Grand Hotel Chatham

This is a basic hotel, not an upscale or luxury one, so keep that in mind. For a budget stay, we had a great experience. The staff and administrators went out of their way to make us comfortable and get us what we needed, and they dealt with any issues quickly. The food was good, usually with two choices for lunch and dinner. They also kindly let us check out late.

The rooms were very basic, and the shower only gave us cold water until we asked someone to come fix it. We chose this hotel for the pool, but it didn't work during any of our four days there. When we asked several times about it, the guy kept saying it would be ready “tomorrow” and became very unfriendly. We paid a lot and didn't feel it was worth the money. You can find somewhere better for less.

The rooms were okay, but no better than a cheaper hostel, and this place wasn't worth the price. They advertised kitchens, then told us on arrival that there was just one, in a much more expensive room. The pool stayed empty our whole visit, even though the staff kept saying it would be filled that day. When we asked for a discount, they were unfriendly and said it wasn't their fault.

The staff were friendly, but the room smelled like a basement. The air conditioning was very smelly and loud, seemed never to have been cleaned, and couldn't be set to work properly. We booked this hotel for the pool, but couldn't use it at all. On the first day, nobody told us it only operated until 8 p.m.; it was closed the other two days. Wi-Fi didn't work in the room. You could get online in the common area, but it was so slow that sending simple WhatsApp messages was about all you could do.
