Hostel del Mar

The public area was the cutest part, with nice music, and the hotel is right in the town center near the beach. My husband and I found the room decent, and the staff were really friendly. We got a good rate with breakfast included, and it was pretty good with three options to choose from. We didn't use the small pool. We did book a tour to Isla de Plata through the hotel and were happy with it. We'd definitely stay again.

The garden is a lovely place to relax, and there's a nice pool there too. The Hostal is close to the beach and right by the center of town. Our room was clean and the bed comfortable, and the staff were friendly and full of useful advice about Puerto lopez. They can also help with buses and activities. The place is kept looking nice, with lovely pictures painted on the walls. I'd 100% recommend staying here if you're in Puerto Lopez.

We left after just one night and got our refund, but the whole stay was a very bad experience on our six-month trip around South America. We arrived at 6am, and although reception was supposed to be open 24 hours, the guy seemed surprised we were trying to get in and was extremely rude. A group of six to eight people at the hostel was out of control: they spat on the floor, shouted, opened our door twice in the middle of the night, and made other guests change tables at breakfast because they thought they mattered more. The other travelers all agreed it was unacceptable. The receptionist knew what was happening the whole time, yet when we asked for a refund and got it, he didn't say a word. Not a place I'd recommend.

Had a private room for $12 with breakfast included. They let me check in really early and leave really late, which was great. The staff were lovely, helpful, and nice. Really nice place, recommend!
