Casa Kanela

My friend and I booked this hostel, but it wasn't open when we got there, so they took us to another one. Then they asked for more money and verbally abused us. The place was disgusting, and the owner was arrogant and a liar. Avoid it if you want to have a good time in Quito. They act like beggars.

After a long drive, we arrived to find there was no room for us. We were told a family was still occupying it because their child was in hospital. If that story wasn't true, it's disgusting. If it was, I hope the child is okay, but nobody notified us before we arrived. They tried to get us to rebook at a hostel with the same owner. It seemed dodgy, so we didn't.

The older people working there may not be rude, but they definitely aren't friendly. Their rules felt old-fashioned and inflexible for younger guests. You can't come back late at night because the man gets upset about opening the door, and he literally complains if you arrive after a set time. I don't remember bothering anyone or breaking any rules while I was there. They also don't seem open to criticism. If you're dealing with customers, you should try to improve based on feedback. People always find excuses for their behavior, I guess.

The room was really nice, and the hotel was cozy and quiet. At $30 a night it wasn't the cheapest place we found, but I'd happily come back anytime.
