The Quito Guest House with Yellow Balconies

The room had a great view, and the WiFi was good. There’s no heating, but I visited in May and didn’t need it. Rooms are basic but do the job, with warm water in the shower. You can use the shared kitchen, which has enough equipment for simple meals. The owner serves a very nice breakfast each morning in his own flat and speaks English.

Marco was so welcoming, and communication with him before I arrived was excellent. My room was lovely, with towels, soap, and a view of the mountains. Breakfast was a good, filling spread of a cheese sandwich, eggs, fresh fruit, and coffee. There’s also a kitchen and living room guests can use. The hot water worked really well, which isn’t always the case in Ecuador. PS, the view from the room is just wow ^^

The hostel is in a good spot, with a friendly host. There’s a small shop downstairs and a laundry place nearby, and it’s a short walk to the historic centre. Tour buses for several agencies leave from a square close by. Street noise can be an issue, but the earplugs worked well enough for me.

We returned three times while visiting Mindo and the Amazone, and I’d recommend staying here. It’s within walking distance of the historical centre, with a big living room and kitchen. Marco provides a nice room with a good bed and bathroom. Breakfast was good too, with fruit, tea, bread with cheese, and an omelette. Great deal!
