One thing I still appreciate about the village, and why I recommend it to friends, is how secure it is. There’s security at the gate, so strangers can’t enter. I’ve been here three times before, and during my week this time I could see a lot of improvement in cleanliness around the place, in the rooms, and even on the beach. I did have a bad experience with a staff member. As we walked toward the car, he offered to carry our bags. The carriage was very close to the chalet, so we declined, but he insisted on taking a light bag. When we got to the carriage, he kept asking Baba for money. We said no, thank you, and Baba didn’t have any change. The worker wouldn’t leave until Baba got 100 pounds, which he took before walking away. If we’d asked for help, he’d have had a reason to ask for payment, but we told him we didn’t want help. He’s supposed to be paid by the village owners, and if he doesn’t get a regular tip, that shouldn’t mean he loses anything. With all due respect to the other workers, some offer help because it’s their job, not because they expect money. Even when we offer them something, they refuse and say they’re just doing their job.
