Serenity Lodge

I really liked being somewhere peaceful, away from the busy city and big resorts. The lodge is about a 20-minute drive from town, but drivers are readily available and charge very reasonable prices. My room was basic, though clean and comfortable, and the breakfast that came with the stay was very good. The menu is simple but good as well. There’s no alcohol at the bar, which suited the calm atmosphere I wanted. I was hoping to avoid tourist-filled all-inclusive resorts, and this was perfect for me. I was warmly welcomed, and the staff were kind and supportive throughout. As a solo woman traveling, I felt safe and comfortable. Hawary and Mansour were especially attentive gentlemen, always there when I needed something.

The snorkeling was fantastic, and the pool is huge, with a sheltered hammock area where you can relax. There’s also a small beach with a couple of loungers and an umbrella. Breakfast is included and was good. From 2 to 9 pm, the menu has pizza, burgers, and salad. My room was roomy, had a balcony, a small fridge, plenty of storage, and even a bath. Everything was clean, and the staff were friendly and happy to arrange whatever you need. They even sent a taxi to the airport for me. They don’t sell alcohol, but that wasn’t an issue. You can get duty free on the way. There’s construction next door at the moment, so there was some noise, but the place still won me over. I’ll definitely return. It feels like home!

There’s a relaxed feel here, and the staff are very friendly and focused on guests. The setting is unusual too, right on the seafront with a view, and there’s a wild beach with a gorgeous reef about 500 meters to the left. Just keep your expectations in line with the price. It felt more like a guest house than a hotel, with some shortcomings treated as part of how things are. Our first-floor room had so many mosquitoes that we couldn’t sleep and were ready to leave, even if it meant losing our money. They moved us to the third floor, where it wasn’t a problem. There’s no mosquito treatment, and the windows have no mosquito nets. There are also no towel hooks in the bathroom. It’s a bit out of the way. For a cafe, shop, or ATM, you’ll need a taxi to Soho, though app taxis are inexpensive. The included breakfast is very meager. Delivery is an option, but it’s a gamble: what we received personally was inedible and cost a lot.

I loved the sea view, which was breathtaking from everywhere. Serenity Lodge was just what I wanted for a break from the rush of everyday life. The staff took such good care of us, and I’m already looking forward to coming back for lots more banana shakes! 😋
