Cairo Moon Hotel - Hostel

The building is old and the breakfast may be bland, as other comments said, but for the price I was surprised by how comfortable and nice the place was. It was very clean, everything worked, and being downtown Cairo was a huge plus. If you’re used to hostels like I am, it feels like a luxury hotel. I had a great time in Egypt, and staying here was a big part of it. I was backpacking solo around the Middle East, but from my first night I felt at home among friends. Mohamed, the owner, is involved and friendly, and he does what he can to make your stay great. Ask for "RAAOF" as a driver. Of the dozen or so drivers I used across the Middle East, Raaof in Cairo was the best. He’s a bright young man with very good English, and he studied tourism and history in college, so he can share a lot about Egypt’s past and present. He showed me around Cairo, made sure I had an amazing time at the pyramids, and spent full days with me. He even picked me up at midnight and dropped me off at 4AM. I trusted him, and he made my Cairo experience epic and, most of all, safe. He’s much more than a driver, he’s a very good guide and now a friend. There are nicer, more expensive places to stay, but if you see yourself as a traveler more than a tourist, stay here for a couple of days and let Mohamed and Raaof show you Cairo from a local’s perspective. They’re both professional and likeable.
