Cleopatra Hotel Cairo

The location is handy, close to shops and the museum, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We even got a free upgrade to a clean, spacious room. But there were plenty of problems. Road noise and honking came through even on the 8th floor, the bathroom smelled bad, and the mattress and pillow were uncomfortable. Maintenance noise started around 7 am, maybe earlier, and the fridge was noisy even though it kept things cold. I hope the hotel improves after the maintenance. As things stand, I regret staying here.

If you want car horns at midnight and cigarette smoke with breakfast, this may be the place for you. The central location looks great on the map, but the rooms aren't soundproof, and road noise was so loud that I couldn't sleep at all, even with earplugs. All the public areas allow smoking.

The rooms are spacious and the staff were extremely friendly, but the decor is very dated, with wires everywhere and power points and light switches behind your head in bed. Street traffic made the rooms incredibly noisy, and earplugs barely helped. The power kept cutting out; I got stuck in the lifts twice, and there were no working stairs. It was lucky there wasn't a fire. There's no pool, despite what the internet photos show.

The room was the letdown: the beds were very uncomfortable, the bathroom smelled bad, and some furniture was broken. The reception area made a great first impression, and the managers were polite and genuinely tried to help. Still, the condition of the room spoiled the stay, and I don't think I'd return.
