Golden Hotel Cairo

I had a terrible stay on a business trip. The room had insects, the sheets and linens were dirty, and the service was extremely poor. Wi-Fi didn’t work and the power kept going out. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel at all.

Right in the heart of Cairo Downtown, which made it easy to explore the attractions. The hotel is a good budget option, with super friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are dated, but very clean.

The location is the one good thing. You can walk to the Nile, museums, tahrir square, restaurants, and other places. When we stayed in Nov 2024, every room was being renovated, so the hotel felt like a construction site. Our room layouts were poor, and one had a transparent door. The AC in our other room, 502, was so loud that I couldn’t sleep the whole trip. I wouldn’t recommend it even at this price.

The kitchen and microwave were useful, and the Wi-Fi was okay for Egypt. One of the hosts, the younger one, was friendly, though the other host was unfriendly and seemed unhappy to answer questions. The room was fairly clean but very old. Water kept leaking onto the shower floor, and the tap broke again about three hours after they repaired it. The noise was unbearable. Cars honked loudly all night, and I couldn’t sleep for even an hour on the first night. Earplugs barely helped. We couldn’t shut the window properly, and the door did little to block noise from staff talking loudly as early as 5 a.m. The building and old elevator felt scary, and the whole place smelled of cigarettes. The host smoked often, spoke loudly, and watched TV near the hall. I’ll never come back. Better to pay a little more for somewhere else, because this stay was terrible.
