Cairo Hotel

I spent 3 days and 2 nights at Grand Cairo, traveling solo, and the service matched what I expected for what I paid. The staff were very nice, arranged breakfast for me in the morning and checked how I was doing. Isham also helped a lot when I booked the shuttle car to the airport. The location worked well, with everything within walking distance and Uber drivers around the area 24/7. This is what the entrance looks like.

The people running the place were really friendly, and we liked them a lot. The internet, though, was so bad I could barely work, and breakfast was basically nonexistent. We ended up here after a mix-up at our original hotel in Giza sent us to Cairo, where the international conference made finding an empty room difficult. We settled for this place. If more than one room had been available, I’m sure we could have enjoyed it much more.

It’s a cheap hotel, and not a bad one, but there are some things to know. The location is pretty good, in the middle of Cairo and close to many sights, with a pharmacy on the same street. Cairo doesn’t really have a clean, organized area, if you know the city. Our room was the cheapest one, and it was big enough for our stuff, with a fridge and balcony. The bathroom was the problem: showering got everything wet. We knew ahead that lots of hotels don’t provide toilet paper, and this one didn’t either. We also couldn’t turn off the light at first because of an electrical issue, but they fixed it later. Breakfast was included and pretty okay, though it was exactly the same every time. We were the only tourists while we were there, so I think the place is mainly for locals. Bring toilet paper, water since tap water isn’t safe like elsewhere in Egypt, and flip flops.

A good value for the money, especially for a short stay.
