Markets and restaurants are about a 15-minute walk away, so the location is handy while the hostel itself stays peaceful. My only minor gripe was the mosquitoes. They seem to be everywhere, and I left with a few bites as souvenirs before heading to my next destination. 😄 I've traveled to more than 85 countries, and this easily makes my Top 5 favorite hostels. The three-story building has kitchens on the first and second floors and bathrooms on every floor. Tea and coffee are free around the clock. In the intense summer heat, the pool was a great spot to cool off, relax, and listen to music. The rooms feel spacious thanks to ceilings over 20 feet high, and the air conditioning kept them pleasantly cool. The modern interior was clean and very well maintained. At check-out I saw staff clean the room thoroughly, even underneath the mattress, before getting it ready for the next guest. That attention to detail really convinced me this is one of the best hostels I've stayed in. There's staff service 24 hours a day, and guests get electronic keys for both the entrance and their rooms. The entrance felt secure and elegant, and the marble staircases gave the building a touch of luxury you don't often find in hostels.

We had a triple bed private room with a shared bathroom, and the room looked lovely. The sheets were so soft, and breakfast was good. Both staff and other guests were friendly and considerate. One of my favorite hostel or hotel stays, honestly. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Cairo.

I really appreciated how quiet the place was, and slept well. Villa Layla Hostel is tucked on a calm street in a good neighborhood, with public transport, food, and shopping easy to reach. Several museums and major sights in the Islamic and Coptic Cairo circuits are nearby too. There's room to relax by yourself, socialize, or sit by the pool, and the kitchens are very well equipped. Before booking, I was drawn to the greenery and heritage look of the building, and then to the evocative room names like Ibn Battuta, Mamluk, and French Lady. When I checked in, my room matched the photo exactly and felt welcoming and comfortable. It really is a haven in the heart of Cairo. A big thanks to the on-site team. They were helpful and quick to answer my questions both before booking and throughout my stay.

What made my stay at Villa Layla especially good was Aya Ali. She always made sure I had what I needed, shared great local suggestions, and even taught me Arabic. When I left some personal belongings behind, she kept them safe until I could collect them. She was always a friendly face to talk and laugh with. The hostel itself is charming, with beautiful old architecture that's well looked after and given a modern touch. Breakfast was very good for a very reasonable price. If you're in Cairo, make sure to visit Villa Layla.

The shared dorm beds were comfortable and gave me plenty of privacy, and I slept really well every night. It was quiet even in such a prime location. The staff were lovely, always smiling, helpful, and kind. The hostel's design is incredible, I've never stayed anywhere so beautifully put together. I miss it already!
