After what happened to us, I can hardly trust the positive reviews. This was the worst experience of my life, and I suspect some reviews may be fake. We booked two rooms through Booking. Com months in advance for 3 nights at around $200 someting dollars, hoping for a decent stay at a reasonable price. When we arrived, they were overbooked and had no rooms left. The host spoke very little english, so we could barely understand each other. They seemed to think we didn’t understand conversions and tried to ripp us off. The manager offered rooms for $500 dollars, saying they couldn’t see our Booking. Com reservation and quoting their own prices. Those rooms were unclean and lacked basic things, not even water for flushing the toilets, let alone hot water. We didn’t have to pay that much at Safir hotel, a 5 star hotel, not a hostel. Since it was our first time in Cairo and it was already 4 am in the morning, we stayed for the few hours left until we could find something better. After we managed to speak to the manager, we got two rooms for $50, much more reasonable than their earlier “top” offer. The staff tried to manage the situation with us, but the manager seemed focused on money. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
