Valencia Hotel

Desultory at the front desk was a gem. He was accommodating, made sure I was comfortable, and helped with all my needs throughout the stay. He really went above and beyond.

The street outside was filthy and noisy, which made an already unpleasant stay worse. Inside, the stairwell was dirty, the corridor rugs were torn and grimy, and the bathrooms had mold. The rooms were also in poor condition: stained mattresses with visible biological residue, stains and blood spots on the walls, and a balcony door that wouldn't lock. I saw these problems in more than one room, so this seemed like a wider issue, not a one-off. The property doesn't meet basic health and safety standards. Stay away.

My cousin and I checked in, saw the rooms and the rest of the place, and immediately left to find somewhere else. The rooms were smoky, the property was a dump, and the online pictures didn't match what we found. It was a mortifying experience. This is the nastiest hotel in the city. Don't book here. I wouldn't wish a stay here on my worst enemy.

Right in downtown Cairo, this place worked well for us as a step or two up from a hostel. We had great meals downstairs at Kos, three times, though I don't think the restaurant was connected to the hotel. It had moved a couple of days after I checked out. The staff were nice, and there was a very cute tabby cat acting like the security guard. Our basic room had no view, but the air conditioning and shower both worked. Breakfast was simple but fine. I'm not sure why the reviews are so negative.
