El Fayrouz Hotel

It's a really relaxed place with a great atmosphere, but the food was dire. Two friends and I found it far beyond palatable. Vegetarian options can be hard to find, but I expected more than a couple of pasta sheets and tomatoes, especially when it was actually listed as lasagna.

The hotel has hosted several archaeological mission teams, mine included, because the rooms work well and the location is convenient. The garden is especially quiet and relaxing for an afternoon, and the surroundings feel friendly and cozy. The food is always very good. The general staff deserve a lot of praise, especially Ani, Hedi, and Karim, who are always caring and supportive.

After a long day among Luxor's ancient sites, lunch in Fairouz hotel's garden restaurant was a lovely break. The West Bank is much quieter, and the garden feels like an idyllic little haven, full of bougainvillea and birds. There are a few friendly cats, too. One staff member managed to lure them away when we shooed them off while eating. The staff are helpful and friendly in a relaxed way, never in your face, which was just right after a tiring day or first thing at breakfast. After an early balloon ride and a full day visiting temples, we came back for late lunch or dinner. They greeted us with refreshing lemon juice, then served generous shish tawook and fried aubergine, both delicious. The breakfast omelettes were amazing as well.
