Golden Palace villa

Our conversations with Walid were one of the most memorable parts of our Egypt trip. He’s friendly, bright, and knowledgeable, and we learned a lot about Egyptian society and daily life. He gave us privacy when we wanted it, and at our request cooked breakfast and dinner each day, then joined us on the terrace while we ate. His English is excellent. The Golden Palace Villa is an architectural gem that Walid designed and built. It has high vaulted ceilings, a distinctive atmosphere, and a lovely large garden and huge terrace overlooking the nearby Nile. The place is spacious, beautiful, quiet, and exotic, with the river and Luxor’s east bank ferry about a five to ten minute walk away. It sits on a peaceful cul-de-sac, just minutes from local shops and ATMs, in a village-like area a short ferry ride from central Luxor. Walid can arrange an airport pickup and return, and the driver, who speaks very good English, can take you to local sights or to a remarkable temple an hour away. If you want a guide, he can also set up a top English-speaking guide who studied history and helps choose places to visit, explaining their history, mythology, art, and architecture. We saw many wonderful sites with the guide and driver. Staying here gave us a first-hand experience of Egypt, and we loved both the villa and the fascinating time with Walid. We felt right at home at The Golden Palace, and Walid was a wonderful host. He organized some very good days for us, with Egyptian prices guaranteed, and we were so glad to meet him. It was the best guest house we stayed in across Egypt. The house was spotless and nicely decorated, in a quiet neighborhood with shops just 50 meters away. The ferry to the east bank is close, and the ticket office is a five-minute walk. We recommend it completely.

The West Bank felt like a lovely village, with a community that included some Bedouin folk, and we felt safe walking around. Walid’s place was comfortable, relaxed, and welcoming. He’s a chef too, and made us a sublime slow-cooked meal in his underground oven.

The Nile’s west bank location is spot on. The place has lots of lovely Arab details, all designed by the host, Mr. Walid. He was a great personality and very attentive to what we needed. Make sure to try the breakfast Walid prepares and serves out in the garden yard.
