House of Hathor

On our second visit to House of Hathor, we found that the place had a lot of wear and didn’t seem properly maintained. The owner also finds ways to ask for a good review. The bigger concern was our belongings. The doors don’t lock, someone went through our luggage, and a lot of our US dollars went missing. When we told the owner, she hung up on us or said we had been careless. I’ve never had an experience like this, or felt forced to leave a negative review before. Some reviews may be too good to be true.

The house is very large and good value, especially for a big group or a stay of 3+ days. The staff and owner are helpful, and I’d stay again if I return. It’s a few minutes from the city, so plan to eat before arriving or buy food, and the housekeeper can help. Make sure you have a driver to make the stay easier. The driver will try to scam you out of every $$$, so I’d arrange transport myself instead of letting him do it. That sort of thing is common in Luxor, and other options could be similar.

The spot is right by the Nile, with a lovely view from the rooftop terasse. It felt safe, and the outdoor area was a perfect place to unwind on the couches or by the pool. Everything was clean, from the rooms and bathrooms to the kitchen and outside spaces. All the staff were great, especially Mohammed. He’s trustworthy, polite, and just an amazing human, whether booking activities or offering his advices. Thank you very much.
