Mount Sinai Bedouin Camp Saint Catherine

Getting to and from the camp was easy because Ahmed arranged the transport. He was kind and helpful the whole time we were in St Catherine. The hotel staff were all friendly, the rooms were warm, and the beds comfortable. The chef’s food was very good, too. I’d recommend staying here if you’re after a scenic hiking trip in Egypt.

The monastery is very close, and the location is perfect. I stayed at the Bedouin camp of Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Musa in June this year, and it felt like a second home. The rooms were clean, the staff were kind, and we came to love them like brothers. Bedouin hospitality is wonderful, and the place has such a peaceful energy. The rooms are actually pretty nice, but the prices and staff were a problem for me. They asked 8 euros for breakfast, which is an insane price in Egypt, and kept trying to sell me a guided mountain tour. It started at 180 euros, then they offered 125, even though I wasn’t interested. They also said they know if people try to go up the mountains alone. I went to one mountain myself and asked for a guide at the police stop, where they got me one for 12 euros. Maybe the other peak was worth the extra 113 euros. For two very easy hikes for sporty adults, 125 euros is a lot. I could understand that price for two mountains over 5,000 meters, but that’s not what these were. ♥️💋

I’ve been staying here for 15 years. It has a family atmosphere and feels like my second home. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the meals are delicious, and they can organize treks for you. Best place to stay in cathrin.
