Ca Na Vinga

The villa itself was quite nice, especially outside, but what happened there ruined our holiday. We were three families with children under four, staying in August 2022, and there are some things I wish we'd known first. The owner’s mother lives next door and kept coming in without warning. We were told she'd visit once at a specific time, but she entered unannounced several times and walked into different bedrooms. It felt like a huge invasion of privacy, especially with young children there. We were uncomfortable throughout the stay. She also made passive aggressive comments about outside lights being left on at night and cups and glasses in bedrooms. Getting around was difficult without a car. The walk into town takes 30 minutes and has no footpaths, with part of it along a very busy road. That felt unsafe with buggies and little kids. The household rubbish bins are down by that road, a 10-minute walk from the villa. We tried taxis many times, but they either couldn't find the place or never showed up. Without a car, this villa really isn't suitable for families with children. Then, at checkout, after we'd paid an €800 cleaning fee for our 10-night stay, the owner's mother was extremely rude and confrontational, saying the house was dirty. Of course it needed basic cleaning after six adults and four kids, but it wasn't in bad condition. We were visibly struggling with upset children and luggage while trying to get onto our airport shuttle, but she wouldn't let the bus leave until we went back inside to clean things she'd demanded and took down the last rubbish bags. That was a 20-minute round trip on foot, with no car and screaming children. After spending around €6000 for 10 days, we were treated like naughty schoolchildren. I'm not sure why, after charging us €800 through AirBNB for cleaning, she thought that was appropriate when only superficial cleaning was needed, exactly what we'd already paid for. Unless you want a grumpy woman scuttling around, invading your privacy and complaining while you're trying to enjoy an expensive holiday, I'd avoid this villa. It's a shame, because the place itself was nice, particularly outside, but it wasn't worth going through all that.
