Saint George Apartamentos

The hotel was clean and smelled fresh, and the breakfast staff were friendly and helpful. But we didn’t feel welcome, especially around the pool. Children had only the pool and pool table for entertainment, and a couple of residents were very rude. We reported it to tui. One staff member, Ana at the pool bar, said she didn’t like children and preferred peace and quiet with her regulars. She should have kept that to herself. It was our first time in tenerife, and after this experience I wouldn’t stay here again.

The pool area was spacious and tidy, and our room was large. We had a nice patio, even though it was tucked into a corner of the building. The location was convenient, close to everything, and breakfast offered plenty of good choices.

On the last night, a large cockroach appeared in the bathroom of our second apartment and ran under the tiles. We’d already reported hygiene problems in the first one, where there were visible droppings in the bathroom corners and along the floor edges, debris in gaps around door frames, a live cockroach and small ants. Being moved to another apartment didn’t solve it, which suggests this wasn’t limited to one unit. The explanation that insects come with Tenerife’s climate didn’t make repeated sightings in two apartments acceptable, especially with visible droppings and dirty corners. Staff handled our concerns dismissively, without much empathy. We were told to stay put and let the cleaner spray in the morning, which I refused because of health concerns. We also worried pests could get into our belongings, so asked to move. Nobody apologised. The hygiene fell below an acceptable standard, and we can’t recommend staying here. I’m sure the hotel will have an excuse, but the images speak for themselves :)

There was nothing for the children to do beyond the pool and pool table, and even at the pool they felt unwelcome. A German man who lives there swore at them. One staff member said they didn’t like children in the hotel because they preferred their regular customers, after telling my 11 year old cousin with ADHD to shut up when he asked another cousin if they wanted ice cream. The only person who made us feel even somewhat welcome was the pool bar lady, but that bar is only open from 12-5:45. We were a group of 12, including four children, and other guests gave us grief for playing in the pool, saying we were a disgrace to English people. Staff were rude and didn’t even say hello. The rooms had no air con. Hiring it cost €60 for seven days, while a fan was €20 for seven days and only moved hot air around. The cleaners were rude and didn’t seem to know their jobs. Bedding was changed only every four days, which didn’t seem right in temperatures over 30 degrees. Breakfast at the hotel wasn’t awful, but lunch was only available from the pool bar between 1-3:30, to eat there or take back to your room. For an evening meal, you had to walk to the beachfront because there was no restaurant or bar open after 5:45. This was our first trip to Tenerife, and the awful service from day one means I’ll never return. The children couldn’t enjoy their holiday without feeling pushed out or uncomfortable.
