We were worn out after moving apartments and felt we needed a proper rest. Getting to Avenida Tibidabo 1 by Cabify, we first saw a plain wall marked ABaC Hotel. The door pushed inward, opening onto a courtyard with a granite sculpture and a few tidy planters of flowers. At reception, a staff member described the services and showed us to our upgraded room. The hotel is about twenty years old, but inside it was deeply quiet, just the place to recover. The room was generously sized for Spain, with full-length windows overlooking the garden, a king bed, a divan desk, and the usual flat-screen TV. Its modern, minimalist design still felt comfortable, and the bathroom had a jacuzzi tub. We headed down to level -1 and found a warm pool with fixed lounge chairs, a plunge pool, wet and dry saunas, and a large lap pool. We were both immediately sold. During our allotted two hours, we relaxed in the warm chlorinated water with massage jets, used the Finnish sauna, then had tea on the heated loungers. Back upstairs, we took a siesta. Dinner later was at the hotel’s three-Michelin-star restaurant, which I’ve reviewed separately on Instagram. After a leisurely 2.5 hours, we returned to the room. I had a bath around midnight and was glad the water was hot, though I couldn’t work out how to use the jacuzzi and planned to ask during the day. We slept soundly in the king bed and woke to quiet again. Spanish hoteliers seem to understand soundproofing better than several other countries we’ve visited. We’ll come back.

The room was nice and the staff were polite, but the main reason I paid extra for the ABaC Hotel penthouse suite was its advertised private jacuzzi. It turned out to be out of service, basically just a cold tub. Nobody told us before we booked or when we arrived. I asked for a partial refund because that feature was a big part of the booking. They offered a discount on a future stay instead, which didn’t feel like an acceptable fix. The property itself is pleasant, but the lack of clear communication and a proper resolution left me very disappointed. I rarely post negative reviews, but guests should know that advertised amenities might not be available and problems may not be disclosed upfront.

The location and the view are both good, but sleep was a real problem. There were repeated noises through the night, especially metal clanking, and it was hard to get a peaceful rest. For the rates, the water policy also felt unreasonable. We got one small 200 ml bottle each night. When I asked for another, staff said management had made that decision, and each extra bottle cost €6. The hotel has some clear comfort and value issues, so I can only give it three stars despite the good setting.

The kitchen is the heart of this hotel, just as the owners proudly say, and it has more warmth than some of the better-known luxury chains. It’s something you really have to experience. The staff were kind and friendly, the rooms clean and comfortable, and all the little details showed care. The whole place has a relaxing feel. I can’t say enough good things about it.

The hotel itself was spotless, modern, and beautiful, with kind, attentive staff. As a place to stay, it was flawless. I also enjoyed watching the waiters take such pride in their work at the Michelin-starred restaurant. Food is another matter. Unless money is no object and you have nothing else to spend it on, I’d choose any local restaurant for a better, cheaper meal. The room service menu is best avoided unless you have a strong stomach. And do yourself a favor at breakfast and cross the street, it’s better than the hotel’s in every way. :)
