Hotel Barcelona Colonial

We stayed three nights before our cruise. The staff were very friendly and arranged taxis whenever we needed them. The location was great. We chose to walk to Sagrada and Park Gruell, which are farther out, but enjoyed the walk. Our room was on the sixth floor, exterior side, and we barely heard street noise. The bed was comfortable.

Breakfast was the highlight, honestly one of the best we had during our Spain trip, and the location was excellent for exploring. We had a road-facing room with a nice view. Staff were responsive when we asked for extra water bottles and blankets, and the hospitality was good. The room was smaller than it looked in the photos, and soundproofing was poor. We could hear everything in the neighboring room, including a couple arguing, which felt uncomfortable. The lively area also brought some outside noise at night. The hotel provides earplugs, which says a lot 😅. At our 5 a.m. checkout, there was no hot water. Reception asked us to wait a few minutes, but it took about 20-25 minutes to come through. We were running late for our flight and couldn’t wait that long. Hot water is a basic necessity and should be available at all times, especially in winter. The balcony also wasn’t very clean and needed better maintenance. It was a decent stay, with a fantastic location and breakfast, but there are a few things to keep in mind before booking.

We felt safe and welcome, and the front desk were very accommodating. We arrived before check-in, so they kept our luggage safe while we went out and got our room ready as soon as they could. The location is great, close to the metro, restaurants, shops, and groceries. Our room was clean and spacious, just right for the two of us, and having a balcony was a bonus. We stayed four days and would totally come back!

My key card stopped working three times during a two-night stay, so I had to keep going back to reception for a replacement. The room was gloomy and smelled stale, with just a tiny window facing an interior shaft that barely let in daylight. There were two beds squeezed in, which made getting to the bathroom awkward. I can't understand how this place has four stars. Easily one of the worst value-for-money stays I've had.
