Hotel Barcelona Universal

We got off our cruise ship early and were relieved to be shown to our room so promptly. It was spacious and spotless, with a very comfortable bed and pillows. Mark at reception was welcoming and helpful, and check-in went smoothly. The hotel is close to the port, right beside a metro station, and not far from La Rambla. The restaurant wasn’t open that evening, but we could eat on the rooftop terrace and the food was good. One small suggestion: an anti-slip bath mat would help, as the tub felt very slippery when showering.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here, especially if you like sleeping in. The breakfast was meagre, with little choice, and the food tasted like plastic. Noise was another problem: even from a room at the end of the corridor, I could hear the lifts opening through the door and noise from the neighbours. The walls seemed as thin as cardboard. Cleaning staff worked in the rooms next to mine from 8.30 am every day, loudly enough to wake me right away. The shower control was broken too. After I called reception, a technician came and only showed me some tricky movements to get the shower running. It was an awful experience, and I couldn’t relax.

The one real drawback was getting a room facing the internal lightwell. It made it hard to tell what the weather was like or even what time of day it was, so a few times I went outside unprepared. Aside from that, the secure keycard entry, climate control, fast and reliable Wi-Fi, and efficient layout all made for a comfortable base to explore Barcelona. The bedding was especially comfortable, while the storage and bathroom were standard and functional. Staff were consistently polite and helpful, and the hotel stayed spotless. Hotel Barcelona Universal feels like a dependable four-star option, with a stylish, welcoming lobby and a professional, smooth guest experience in a central location.

The kitchen deserves high praise. The food was delicious, varied, and prepared with real attention to detail. The restaurant team, Jason, Cheryl, Gonzalo, Nazar, and Miko, were courteous, efficient, and attentive. Their kindness and energy made every meal pleasant, and they always made sure we had what we needed. At reception, Sara, Carlos, Oscar, and Ronald were especially warm and ready to help, always with a smile. The whole team showed real care and dedication, and we’ll remember them for a long time. From arrival through departure, we felt genuinely welcome and looked after. Thank you for making this such an unforgettable stay and for helping me during a difficult time in my pregnancy. We’ll certainly come back and would gladly recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a pleasant, worry-free stay.
