Bed & Art Barcelona

The walls are covered in dirt and grease, not grey paint like the photos suggest, and there are huge cracks throughout the building. My children were bitten by bed lice in the mattresses on the very first day. The hostel owner was rude and dishonest, ready to charge at people and bark like an angry dog at any opportunity. This place belongs in a horror movie. Google Maps really needs a rating below one star for it.

If you care more about spending your money on food, wine, and tours than having every modern amenity, this is a good-value place. Bed & Art is in a beautiful old building, and the location is super convenient.

The site's rating doesn't seem right to me. We stayed as a family in a four-bed room, and everything was clean and tidy. They refreshed the towels and tidied our room every day. Breakfast was excellent, and it's an eight-minute walk to the main square, with excellent airport connections. Communication was great too. They check on your arrival and ask if you need anything. I'd recommend it.

The location worked really well for visiting museums and other parts of downtown Barcelona, with plenty of good places to eat within walking distance. There are bus stops and metro access nearby for getting around the rest of the city, including an area with lots of Asian food. We found it acceptable for one night before a flight. The old building is lovely, though the elevator can be finicky: all its doors need to be fully shut or it won't move off the floor. We had to climb the stairs to the top floor to get it to come down, and only knew to do that because another person was coming down. The place was clean, with a decent private sleeping room and shared sitting areas. The beds weren't comfortable, but they were usable for one night.
