We barely slept more than two hours on the first night, and the late checkout we were offered didn’t make up for it. We paid over €100 a night, so the stay at Hotel Auto Hogar was especially disappointing. The room was around 35°C, and the air conditioning didn’t work. Reception said the system was set to central heating for winter and couldn’t cool the room. Poor window insulation also meant constant street noise at night. The water was even worse: both the sink and shower kept switching unpredictably between scalding and freezing, with no steady warm setting and a risk of burns. After we complained the next morning, we were moved to a room at the back. The temperature improved, but the water problem was exactly the same. I followed reception’s advice and emailed the hotel manager to explain what happened and ask for proper compensation, but never got a reply. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was a very poor experience and I wouldn’t recommend it.

I was only there for one night, back in November 2023 (Google AI keeps flagging my reviews), and was upgraded to a bigger room with a lounge area, two separate bedrooms, and a balcony. The hotel’s excellent location was why I chose it, but my room faced the main street and got quite noisy at night. Staff were very friendly, even though I checked in very late. I had no issues during that stay, and would most likely choose it again for future Barcelona trips.

Breakfast was amazing, with something for everyone. The hotel has a brilliant location, with a tube station right beside it, and check-in was speedy. I was in hotel2. The room was large, the bed comfortable, and there was a kettle and safe. A couple of problems: the shower was powerful, but it suddenly went from warm to red hot like a turbocharger kicking in. The air conditioning only blew warm air, so I turned it off and kept the windows open the whole stay. The room was still stiflingly hot. I asked reception if anything could be done, but was told that was the building’s setting. The corridor was freezing, so I propped the door open with a chair to let some cold air into the room. If the air conditioning had worked, I would have rated the hotel five stars.
