The breakfast and pleasant restaurant staff were the only things I genuinely liked. After two nights, we decided to move to another hotel. For a 4-star hotel, the room was small and looked worn and outdated, quite different from the nice Booking photos. The bathroom smelled unpleasant, the toilet flush didn't work properly, and its glass door barely closed, leaving almost no privacy when traveling with someone. The entrance door also didn't shut tightly, and the soundproofing was nearly nonexistent. The bed linen was torn at the edges, and our request to replace it was ignored. But the €8 we supposedly hadn't paid because of a staff mistake certainly wasn't overlooked. Our expectations for Grupotel Gran Via 678 weren't met, and I can't recommend it.

The location and breakfast were great, but I probably wouldn't stay again. The pool is only 7x2m, very small, and that wasn't obvious in the photos, which felt misleading. The walls between rooms were so thin we could hear suitcases being zipped, people talking and intimate moments. The air con didn't work, and because our terrace room opened onto a public area, we couldn't leave the door open at night. It got so hot.

Over 8 nights, the place started to feel like a home base in Barcelona. I could easily walk to the Gothic Quarter, La Rambla and Eixample, so I rarely felt rushed or reliant on transport. Coming back after a long day to a quiet, clean and comfortable room was always a relief. It doesn't have much character or charm, but it's dependable, and that made a real difference on a longer stay at Grupotel Gran Via 678.

We got around Barcelona entirely on foot from this excellent location, without needing transport. Breakfast had a good range of choices. The room, though, felt quite tired and could do with renovation.

The receptionist on the night shift was extremely rude when my daughters and I came down after finding our hotel door wide open when we returned from dinner. She dismissed our concern and offered no solution, so we went back upstairs feeling scared and checked that our belongings were still there. We also learned there was no heater. It was 19 degrees Celsius in the room, and we had to use hot shower water to warm it up. The receptionist working Tuesday March 24th at 9am was very helpful and nice, but I don't recommend staying here and definitely won't book again.
