The worst surprise was being charged €2 for a blanket. Without paying, you get only a bare bed and pillow. I’ve traveled around a lot of European countries and never seen a place charge for such a basic thing. They also collect a €6.60 city tax per night on arrival, then add a 5% fee if you pay by card instead of cash. Charging extra for card payments is illegal under EU rules (PSD2). I arrived around midnight after a flight delay and could barely find the hostel, since there was no prominent street sign. A passerby finally told me it was on the second floor. You have to ring a buzzer at two different doors to get in. There’s access control to the building, but no lock on the room door and no room key, so anyone in the hostel can walk straight into the room from reception. It was also impossible to sleep. The room faced a busy main road with traffic all night, and reception staff were loudly talking with people at 2 a.m. I could hear every word. This place is greedy, loud, and has no privacy. Save your money and avoid it.

Such a welcoming, friendly vibe at this hostel. I had a great time meeting Abtin, Maedeh, Nasim, Julieta, Gloria, and lots of other lovely people. Highly recommend if you’re going to Barcelona! Sorry sorry noooo sorry😅😅🌻🌻

The location worked really well for us, and the room was clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom is along the hallway, but that didn’t bother us much and it was well looked after. Our host was very kind and gave us a lovely welcome. We had an excellent stay at the Hip Karma Hostel.

I missed my train, and after midnight they cancelled my three-day stay without contacting me or warning me beforehand. I had to find another hotel at the last minute and pay twice as much. Don’t trust them.

The beds were genuinely comfortable, and everything was clean and quiet. We were three girls and felt fine in the area. The front desk was attentive, and there’s affordable Chinese food just down the street that stays open late. We wanted a quiet hostel rather than a social one, so that worked for us. They emailed us some nice ideas for things to do around Barcelona, too. Bedding and towels cost extra, but that’s stated on the website, so it wasn’t a surprise. It could get stuffy and a little smelly sometimes, though I think that was down to the people, not the hostel. We could have opened a window but left afterward. Check-in was a bit of a hassle because they needed a photo of the credit card holder’s ID. The email came just as we were about to board the plane, but once we sent it, everything went smoothly. 10/10, I’d come back.
