Hostel New York

For a cheap hostel, this worked out well, and I’d stay again. We were seven people, with one of us placed in a separate room because of space, which suited us. The desk was staffed around the clock and everyone was polite. You have to leave your key at reception whenever you go out. There’s Wi-Fi and free luggage storage after checkout, plus plenty of restaurants, bars and supermarkets nearby and a bus station about a 7-minute walk away. We had a six-person room with three bunks, lockers and a balcony over the road. The lockers came with locks. We were handed sheets, towels and pillowcases to make our own beds; I didn’t mind doing that, though it may not suit everyone. It was chilly, the balcony door gave us some trouble, and the bunks squeaked when you moved. There was just enough headroom for me to sit up on the lower bunk. The women’s bathroom was clean, as were the showers, and the water was warm. You just have to press the shower button a few times to keep it going. A sign asked people not to flush toilet paper. The desk also sells toothbrushes, toothpaste and shaving kits cheaply. For what we paid, it was a good stay.

We were really happy with our stay. The hostel is basic and a bit noisy, but the shared bathrooms were clean and well looked after, and there’s a useful kitchenette downstairs with a fridge, microwave and toaster. They’ll also store your luggage for free. The rooms are quite Spartan: four beds, lockers and a table, with little light. That makes sense in an old building on a very narrow street. The location is hard to beat for the price, right in the centre, about five minutes from the seafront and a couple of minutes from major metro stations and bus stops, including Lycée. We walked to Sagrada Família, roughly 3 km away. We left very satisfied, and want to say thank you.

The service was consistently good, and the location in the heart of El Gotic is perfect. For a couple of nights, the two-person room did the job: a simple bunk, a table and some storage. The shared facilities were the main drawback. There’s one men’s toilet and one women’s toilet per floor for lots of rooms, so sometimes you have to wait, especially in the morning. The women’s showers have curtains, but the shower room door doesn’t lock, which made me uncomfortable. Otherwise, it was fine for a short stay :)

Getting checked in was incredibly quick and deserves five stars, and the location made it easy to get around to the city’s attractions, also a five-star point. I had a positive stay at Hostel New York Barcelona, though a few small things could be improved, so I’d give the experience four stars. I’d recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable place in a convenient part of Barcelona.
