La Casa Del Sol Hotel

The area around La Plaça del Sol is full of local shops, cafes, and restaurants, and our balcony looked out over the neighborhood park with its cafes, playground, families, children, and dogs. Our room at Sonder La Casa del Sol was modern, comfortable, and clean. The hotel is small and pretty, with a clean, modern look. There’s a ground-floor restaurant where the staff make coffee and put out a breakfast buffet each morning with bread, meats, cheeses, yogurt, eggs, cereal, pastries, and juices. When we arrived, Judith greeted us warmly at the front desk, and she and her colleagues were friendly and provided great service throughout our stay.

The location is great, and the rooftop is nice, but this was a huge disappointment after good stays at Sonder hotels across Europe. We couldn’t get pre-arrival information from the hotel by email. We only got the right check-in instructions after contacting Expedia and Marriott. There’s no reception from 5pm to 9am, so arriving outside those hours means you’re on your own. On our last night there was no hot water, and with no staff or maintenance outside 9-5, nobody could fix it until the next day. After the third night, the AC started glitching and kept turning off because it thought a door or window was open when it wasn’t. That happened the same night as the hot water problem. There was also smoking in other rooms despite the no-smoking rule. With no staff on site, nobody would know. This felt more like a 2 star stay.

The hotel’s secure, and it has a restaurant and a small bar where you can get drinks at night. I had trouble with the door code a few times, but someone was quick to help whenever I needed it. Bea let me check in early and was super helpful with suggestions for things to do nearby. The location is perfect, in a neighborhood of locals with plenty of places for coffee, drinks, and dinner. La Rambla is walkable, or about a 10 minutes ride with Bolt. My room was very clean and had large windows. There were pigeons sleeping in the flower pots outside, but I barely noticed the sound. I was here for the weekend and would definitely come back, perhaps for a day or two to explore the neighborhood.

The rooftop was peaceful and a nice extra, and the location was ideal. Check-in at this self-service hotel was quick and easy, and our clean, modern, spacious room had all the amenities we needed. Even without a traditional reception, staff were available on the app or by phone and answered our questions promptly. We had a fantastic, hassle-free stay and will definitely return.
