We had the money to book another place straight away, but not everyone has that kind of spare cash or room in their travel budget. I can't imagine what someone would do if they couldn't afford to find somewhere else. A decent hotel shouldn't leave guests out on the street, especially when they're new to the city and the country. My friend and I booked a room four months ahead for our first trip to Spain, and arrived looking forward to it. Instead, at 10pm we were told we couldn't check in because the hotel was supposedly closing in a few days. The manager, who introduced herself as Christina, said Booking had emailed us about it, but we never received those emails. Christina acknowledged their part in the misunderstanding and offered us a free night to make up for it. The next morning, though, we got a bill for that supposedly complimentary stay, after everything we'd gone through. Booking customer support assured us we'd get a refund, but it still hadn't come through the following week. They also never actually closed down, as is clear from what happened. They suggested a few other places, but all were booked, so we had to find somewhere at the last minute for a much higher price. If they'd told us sooner, the damage wouldn't have been so bad. I still don't understand how a good hotel can leave guests stranded like that. This was a dishonest, disorganized experience with no customer service or empathy. I hope this long review warns others. Stay away.

From May 3 to May 6, we spent four lovely days here and would absolutely come back if we had the chance. Casa Mila and other sights are only a few minutes away on foot, and getting around is easy. The rooms were spotless and felt like home. The staff were wonderful, always ready to help and happy to suggest places to eat.

Gracia is such a great neighborhood, with good places to eat and fun little shops, and the hotel is very close to the metro. Our street-facing room was surprisingly quiet, with very good soundproofing. The rooms were clean and well equipped, and the staff were lovely, generous, and welcoming. I'd definitely stay here again.

Christina deserves a special mention. She was so helpful, and nothing seemed like too much trouble. Thanks to her and the rest of the friendly staff for making our stay so lovely. The hotel was spotless and tastefully decorated, with a little garden out back where we enjoyed morning coffee and later a beer. Our room had a large, comfortable bed, and the bathroom's drench shower felt luxurious.

We had to scramble for somewhere to stay at the last minute, and ended up paying much more. The hotel suggested a few alternatives, but they were all fully booked. If they'd let us know earlier, the impact wouldn't have been so bad. We booked the Garden Garcia Hotel two months before our holiday and reconfirmed about two weeks before flying. Then, just a week before departure, we got an email saying the hotel was closed for renovations and our reservation had been cancelled. Did they really decide on a major renovation so urgently that they could only tell guests a week before closing? For management in hospitality, this was a total failure in every respect.
