Mambo Tango

The electrical problems were serious: whenever I plugged something in, the lights flickered. Staff acknowledged the issue but wouldn’t refund us. Their alternative was a room with a shared bathroom, so we’d be overpaying for a double bed in a place where proper electrical safety checks seemed to be missing. I found somewhere else to stay so I could feel safe. Afterwards, the hostel reported my booking as a “no show,” which I believe was to avoid responsibility and bad reviews on Booking.com. I booked a private room at Mambo Tango Hostel through Booking.com, but the photos gave a misleading impression. The room was on the ground floor with no natural light. The advertised yard was actually a shared smoking area where people shouted and kept us from resting. There was a mildew smell and too much humidity, and the place seemed not to have been renovated in years. Save your time, energy, and money. Stay away.

For the price, the rooms were decent and the location was good. Breakfast was included and good enough. It met my expectations for what I paid. I’m steadied.

A light breakfast was offered each day, with fruit, packaged rolls, and coffee or tea. The red-haired woman at the front desk was always attentive and gave good advice. She was tremendous, and the friendly service was exceptional.

I liked the coffee, juice, croissants, and other breakfast options. The room was fairly clean, and being on the highest floor at the back meant the noise wasn’t too bad, even though we slept with the air conditioning on. I’d booked without a window by accident, so check carefully when booking. They were full and couldn’t move us, and sleeping in a windowless room felt odd. The bathroom doors squeak badly and need oiling, and having to compete for the shower was annoying. The night receptionist from Argentina played video games all night, which I can understand might help pass the time. But he had no headphones, and he and his friends yelled and swore on speaker. We could hear them upstairs, which felt pretty unprofessional.
