May Ramblas Barcelona

Good value, a great location, no problems, and perfectly fine rooms. It did what I needed for this trip, so that’s five stars from me. I’d book it again for a similar visit to Barcelona. I suspect some of the negative reviews come from people expecting more, so do your research and stay somewhere else if you want something better. Thanks!

The staff made me feel at ease as soon as I arrived, without making a fuss. I also liked the little practical touches in the room, including the supplied toothbrush, toothpaste and soap. High ceilings kept the space feeling airy, and I could look down at the street from the windows facing La Rambla. It was cosy and fine for a night. The layout was a little odd, and the TV felt dated and had some network problems, though that didn’t matter much for such a short stay. Restaurants, shops and nightlife are all within walking distance.

Right by the metro, so the location is a real plus. The hotel feels a bit worn, and the pillows, towels and bedding could do with an upgrade. Manuel was the highlight for me, genuinely kind, helpful and cheerful. Gracias!

The toilet and TV both stopped working, and the toilet took repeated requests and two repair visits before it was fixed. Cleaning rags were left behind, and nobody replied to my emails. They wouldn’t let us change rooms because the manager they said was needed was apparently never available. The hotel also looked nothing like the photos. Reception was clearly being renovated, and there seemed to be a garbage storage area for neighboring restaurants behind the desk. You could smell it as soon as you walked in. Wooden strips in the room were coming loose too.
