No 18 - The Streets Apartments

We knew there might be some city noise, but we'd never experienced anything like this. The windows couldn't be closed, and it felt like we were lying out on the street in front of the club around the corner. We managed maybe an hour or two of sleep, and left after one night. Trying to get a refund made things worse. After a lot of calls between managers, we were told there would be no refund because the receptionist had offered us other options. That simply wasn't true. We asked for a refund because she had said there were no options and that she'd contact the manager about it.

We booked an apartment that looked nice in the photos and ended up with a tiny room, a futon mattress on a piece of plywood, and a horrible couch. It was extremely loud, and the people above us partied and made a lot of noise. Bait and switch. I'd give it a negative rating if I could.

There was a lot of partying late into the night, at least until 2am every night we were there. That may or may not bother you, but I hadn't known about it beforehand. Also, families with kids should know there's a sex shop a few storefronts down, with explicit things in the windows. The room itself was nice, the shower was a good size, and there was a kitchenette setup with a sink, hot plate, and so on.

The windows wouldn't even close, which made the noise unbearable. We had earplugs in and still couldn't sleep at all. Until 6 in the morning there were party sounds from at least two nearby clubs, people in the street, barking dogs, and cleaning cars. I knew it could be noisy near the Ramblas and had stayed nearby before, which is why I brought earplugs, but I never expected the windows not to shut. You'd think a whole building renovation near the Ramblas would include windows that close. After that night I had a migraine from lack of sleep. We spoke to reception, and she said there were no other options available and understood why we wanted to leave. She said we weren't the first and asked us to call the next day to speak with her manager. After several calls, emails, and weeks of waiting, we got an email saying there'd be no refund, despite one verbal confirmation that we would get one. Worst hotel night and service I've ever had.
